A second-hand phone is one person selling their old phone to another — no checks, no warranty, no accountability. There’s a process involved in a certified refurbished phone. It is checked, repaired as necessary, cleaned and retested before being put back on the market.
- Every phone is tested across 52 quality checkpoints
- Battery health is measured and disclosed (typically 85–100%)
- Display, camera, speakers, Face ID/fingerprint sensors — all verified
- Software is reset to factory settings — clean slate for you
- Cosmetic grading is transparent — you know exactly what you’re buying
- 12 Month Warranty is included on every device
| 💡 Quick Answer: A certified refurbished phones is a pre-owned phone that has been professionally tested, repaired, and certified as working before being resold — usually with a warranty and at a lower price than new. |

How to Buy a Refurbished Phone Without Getting Cheated
India’s refurbished phone market is growing fast. That’s great. But it also means there are more sellers — and not all of them are trustworthy. Here’s your quick checklist:
- Check the battery health — Always ask for the battery health percentage. Above 85% is excellent.
- Demand a warranty — A trusted seller will always offer a warranty. At Refone, every phone includes 12 Months warranty.
- Ask about cosmetic grade — Know what A+, A, or B means before buying.
- Confirm return policy — A legitimate seller offers a 7-day return window.
- Check if IMEI is clean — Verify the IMEI on imei.info to confirm the phone isn’t blacklisted.
- EMI options available? — Good sellers offer EMI. Refone supports EMI across major banks and cards.

Is a Refurbished Phone Better Than a New Budget Phone?
One of the top Google and ChatGPT queries of 2026 is what some may find surprising:
Compare a new ₹25,000 budget Android phone with a refurbished iPhone 13 at the same price. The iPhone 13 is measurably faster on its A15 Bionic chip compared to the budget Android; the camera software has been more refined, the build quality is much improved, and it receives 4–5 years of software updates. It’s not remotely close.
| 40% Average savings vs new flagship | 60+ Quality checkpoints per device | 4 Cr+ Refurbished phones sold in India 2026 | 80%+ Minimum battery health at Refone |
The refurbished vs second-hand debate is worth clearing up too. Second-hand means unverified. Refurbished means quality-controlled. Purchasing from a certified seller such as Refone means you are getting a device that has been tested just as a new phone — but for a much lower price.
